Africa is a vast and varied country that is well-suited for camping safaris thanks to the many “under canvas” campsites and well-maintained open camping sites, which are situated within its many parks and reserves. Added to those public areas are a multitude of sites that are situated in or near various establishments, such as hotels, lodges and resorts that are perfect for a base camp for African safaris.

A camping safari is a very common choice for safari holidays partly because it tends to be less expensive than staying at the fine lodges and resorts, although there are also some luxury safari options for camping out in Africa as well. In general, travelers who are planning to take in the sights and sounds of Africa while camping have the option of either arranging for a private camping safari or a group camping safari.

The private camping safaris are primarily designed for a group of two or more people traveling together and who are not particularly keen on making their camp with strangers. They will travel in just one vehicle during the course of their trip and also are the only ones who stay within the tented camp or the camp site.

Those who prefer a private camping safari will also be exclusively sharing any facilities of the campground and all of the meals are also shared amongst themselves. Guests who are on a private safari won’t be joined by any others who are on the same safari tour or who might have a similar itinerary. Throughout the trip, they travel exclusively together.
