When it comes time to decide about what kind of wedding ceremony you would most like to have, there are a myriad of choices these days. While religious ceremonies are still popular, more and more couples are choosing alternative types of ceremonies where religion is not the main focus.
In stepping away from tradition and opting for a non-religious ceremony, some couples are asking a friend or a family member to perform the ritual. However, an important part of the role for the person who officiates, is to provide guidance in preparing and crafting the wedding vows, as well as for the overall ceremony.
If the couple chooses to go about it on their own and plan their wedding ceremony from scratch, then there are some essential elements to be considered. These elements will help in creating a memorable and personal wedding event that will reflect the personality and taste of the couple.
Some of these critical wedding ceremony components to consider are: the processional for the entrance of the bride, the groom and other members of the party, if desired; the music, poetry, literature or other marriage readings, including those from the Bible, as desired; the witnesses who you wish to sign your marriage certificate; the wedding vows, whether standard or custom written by the couple; the exchanging of the rings; the lighting of a unity candle of other type of unity ceremony; any type of blessing or benediction on the marriage; any community or familiar commitment to support and uphold the union; the newlyweds’ first kiss and the recessional during the exit of the bride and groom.
