Styling Your Billiard Room
A billiard hall is where you will find billiard tables and players. This term “billiard room” originated with old, large estate homes where there was a different room for everything. These days, not many people have a room solely for the purpose of playing billiards, but if you do own a billiards table, then you know you almost have to have a whole room for it because they are so large. Today, a bar, a billiard hall or a billiard club are the most common places to find billiards being played.
A billiard room has to be large enough so that you can hit the cue ball from any angle and station around the table. This usually means having at least 8 feet of free space all around the table. For a 7 foot table, this means having a room that is at least 15 feet by 19 feet. Bigger tables need bigger rooms. This can be quite difficult to arrange in a modern home without placing the table in your living room. Of course, there are many game rooms and basements that are bigger than that; however, many people like to put other things in with their billiard table.
Consequently, many don’t leave enough room around their table to make the playing of a game possible. In a billiard hall, sometimes there is enough room around the tables to play properly, but often there is not. Some places place the tables so close together that if someone else is playing at an adjacent billiard pool table, then the two people bump into each other. This is very inconvenient, but it is still possible to play that way. Proper billiard lighting is also an important aspect for the billiards room and most upscale bars and billiard club venues do provide good, over-the-table billiard lights.
