Roles Of Actors And Actresses
Performers seen and heard in movies, radio, TV drama and comedy shows and theater productions are called actors and actresses. Actor is a term meaning “to interpret,” which is derived from a Greek word, and prior to the 17th century, male actors traditionally played both male and female roles. The first know instance of a person playing the role of a character on stage is believed to be an actor named Thespis, who performed in ancient Greece. Before Thespis’s performance, storytelling was done in the form of narration or song and dance. The term Thespian, used to refer to actors/actresses, originated from Thespis’s name.
Shakespearean plays are perhaps the most famous of the original stage productions, yet developments in both role playing and technology have brought about many changes in the last century. Performers are now famous for their work in a variety of mediums, including radio, television, film, and Broadway musicals and plays. Performers must have many different skills, including vocal projection, speaking clarity, ability to express emotional at will, an imagination, and the ability to memorize large scripts.
One of the new mediums for actors and actresses is voice acting for computer animated productions, and for films, television shows and video games. This also extends to voice-overs for commercials on television and radio, audio books, and film dubbing. People who participate in this form of acting are called voice actors. A voice actor is commonly famous and easily recognized from motion picture films and television sitcoms. The advantage to this type of work is that the performers are not burdened with the traditional costuming and makeup. They are free to just act, without the extra distractions.
