A Ballet Dancer Is Multi Skilled
A dancer is anyone who moves their body in a way that is considered expressive of emotions by a particular culture. Dancing is usually done to some kind of music or rhythm, yet what is considered a dance changes over the years, sometimes drastically. Ballet has been a form of dance for a long time and classical ballet is considered by most people to be a high art, thus a ballet dancer is usually regarded with respect.
Ballet first originated in Italy and France. It supposedly started as a form of expressive fencing. The main idea of ballet form is to present a person’s best features while dancing. This is why ballet dancers suck in their stomachs, tuck in their behinds, and present sleek, long lines in all of their moves. Modern ballet allows for more expression of movement, but traditional, classical ballet tries to keep the torso as stationary as possible, and is performed to slower musical pieces. Modern ballet, or neoclassical ballet, allows for faster tempos. A ballet dancer focuses more on strength, flexibility and grace rather than on speed. This is why ballet dancers have such a unique physical form. The legs of dancers become very strong over the years, causing them to look well-muscled and formed.
Ballet has morphed into several distinct styles, which are classical ballet, neoclassical ballet and contemporary ballet, and each is unique. Classical ballet tries to stay as close to the tradition of ballet as possible. Neoclassical ballet keeps to tradition, but also allows more modern moves into the dance. Contemporary ballet has the basic structure of older ballet styles, but that is about it. A lot of contemporary ballet is taken from modern and 20th century styles of dance.
