How many species of birds currently exist?
Currently there are an estimated 9,800 to 10,050 different bird species in the world. There are those that can fly and those that cannot. Some only live in the Western Hemisphere and others are only found in the Eastern Hemisphere. Some birds are adapted to living only in tropical climates where there is plenty of shelter in the trees for them and they do not have to worry about the cold. In fact birds are found on every continent in the world. They are amazingly adaptable and can survive in even the most extreme circumstances.

But birds of prey are a completely different species of birds. These birds are powerful, have great eye sight and can reach great speeds. It would be a proud thing to be compared to a bird of prey.

If you have paid attention to the news and health alerts since 1997, then you have undoubtedly heard about the bird flu. Avian influenza is a devastating disease for domesticated fowl.
