This is not something that you can just do as it pleases you. It takes dedication and a willingness to help others who may be less fortunate than you. This may be hours that you do not want to work such as early in the morning or an all day fundraising event.

What type of expertise do I need to have in order to do charity work?

You do not need any kind of expertise in order to do charity work. Just you being willing to take on responsibility is enough to make you perfectly suited for volunteering. Now if you are looking to be paid by the charity to work then you may need applicable skills that apply to whatever job position you are searching for. Charity organizations need many of the same skilled workers that regular businesses utilize. If you are a proven organizer and have worked in an office setting or volunteered before you may be able to find a position that works well for you.
