Immigration Bonds For Migrants
A bail bond agency in your area may not specialize in immigration bonds, as they really are of no use to a citizen of this country. However, for an immigrant they can mean the difference between sitting in a detention facility and being free to work and be with family. The INS, or the Immigration and Naturalization Service is the one to turn to if you are a newcomer to the country and have been arrested.
There will always be some immigration bonds issued by the INS, but these people are more of a flight risk to a bail bond agency than others. It really depends on the type of crime, where the person is from and how badly they want their freedom. Many do not want to risk deportation and elect to run from the law rather than take the chance that they will be sent back to their homeland.
There are two ways a bond is posted. The first is a cash bond in which the immigrant puts up the entire amount in cash him or herself. The second is through a bail agency that will guarantee the bond but requires a percentage of the bond as their fee. The higher the risk of running, the larger the bond will be and thus the percentage, which is non-refundable, will be higher as well. As long as the immigrant shows up to the court on the designated day there will be no problems.
