MySpace and Facebook are the giants when it comes to social networking sites. Both are used globally to connect with friends, share stories and even find friends from the past. It has become a daily occurrence for many to log onto one or both of these sites as entertainment or to keep the world informed of their doings. Yes, they are very similar but there are also things that differentiate the two sites from one another.

Social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook operate by allowing users to find friends and connect with people all over the world. As long as you have an email address and are over the age of thirteen, then you can create a profile on either website. You can search Facebook or MySpace to find bands, groups or friends that you are interested in. In a way, it brings the world one step closer together.

There are differences in MySpace and Facebook. The first is in the number of users that use these two sites. MySpace can boast over seventy-three million users. Facebook can only claim thirty-six million users. This has many business experts worried that advertising services used on Facebook will decline and not bring in enough revenue to support the site in the future. Daily advertising banners are the backbone of how Facebook and MySpace are supported. There has been merger news about Facebook and MySpace but as of yet nothing has come to fruition.

Your profile is a big dividing point between MySpace and Facebook. MySpace allows you to customize your profile through the use of HTML and CSS coding. Facebook has only a text based system so you miss out on being able to use some of the graphics and additions to customize your webpage. The ability to customize your layout is a huge plus MySpace has going on for them.
