Interestingly, there are a number of traditions that have their origin in different countries and which have become part of the melting pot of cultures in the United States. They have simply become familiar ways that people celebrate the season.
The tradition behind the Christmas lights and holiday decorations that are so common on Christmas trees today, actually goes back to an old tradition that comes to us from Germany.
It is said that it was the country of Germany that gave birth to the tradition of the Christmas tree, when they began to set up evergreen trees in their homes. This was before the advent of electricity, so tiny white candles were placed on the trees, also giving birth to the custom of Christmas lights.
