Types Of Massages

Human nature is a fascinating thing to watch. Take for example someone who has just exerted themselves by lifting something too heavy. After the load is placed, the person will usually begin to massage his or her back to ease the tension and muscle pain that can come with moving heavy objects. You naturally rub the area where the pain is located. Massages from a professional work the same way.

A spa massage starts off with you either undressing or being covered by drapes or by removing the article of clothing where the injury is located. Depending on what style you prefer or what style is best suited for your particular needs, the massage therapist will begin working your muscles using an oil. A masseuse located in a hospital will typically use a neutral scent whereas massages given in a spa or resort will use aromatherapy essential oils.

There are a few massage techniques that seem to be more popular than others. These techniques are: Shiatsu, Swedish, Stone, and a sports massage. Each technique employs different hand pressure, working the muscle differently and may use different types of hand movements. The first three types can be found in most spas and resorts, whereas the sports one is generally used by physical therapists and massage therapists working with athletes who have strained their muscles during their sport or have become injured.
