Have you found yourself fretting over whether breastfeeding your baby will be the right decision for your lifestyle? Not every mother enjoys breastfeeding. Many first time mothers have a hard time deciding if breastfeeding is right for them. Getting a few facts can prepare you to make an informed choice that fits well with your lifestyle.

You may choose to wait until after your milk supply comes in to decide if you will breastfeed. Some women produce a very weak milk supply and are not able to breastfeed. Each pregnancy is unique and you cannot be sure that your milk supply will be adequate with each baby. Two to three days after the birth of your baby, your milk supply will begin. Until then, your body produces colostrum to sustain your infant. Some mothers may feel uncomfortable about their baby only getting colostrum for the first few hours of their life and may choose to supplement with formula feedings until their milk supply begins.

For other women, the idea of sore nipples and public breast feeding is enough to deter them from breastfeeding their baby. Bruised and sore nipples and the stares of strangers as you breastfeed in public are a few of the major drawbacks of breastfeeding. Some women choose to endure sore nipples and shy away from public breastfeeding, choosing instead to feed their baby in restrooms and back seats while out in public because they believe the benefits of breastfeeding outweigh the pain, inconvenience and potential humiliation.
