Few people realize that many of our modern medicines were first developed from herbs. In fact, it’s estimated that ΒΌ of all the over the counter medicines on the pharmacy shelf have come from herbs in some form. It’s unfair for herbal medicine to be discounted when looking for treatments, but unfortunately most medical practitioners do not acknowledge these alternative medicines.
Herbal supplements can help all sorts of common ailments with natural elements. For instance, angelica root helps ease menopause symptoms and premenstrual syndrome. Aloe vera has been used for centuries as a burn treatment, but did you know it also treats ulcers and diabetes? Ginger root has been known to treat a whole host of problems, from headaches and sore throats to arthritis and heartburn.
Both Chinese herbal medicine doctors and Western doctors have touted the successfulness of herbal teas for years. There’s nothing like chamomile tea to help you sleep or lemon balm tea to lift the spirits. The benefits of the ever-so-popular green tea include improved circulation, flu symptom fighting, lower blood sugar and cholesterol and antioxidant power. After all, isn’t a hot cup of tea a much nicer treatment than an austere pill or a trip to the doctor?
