Behind Stainless Steel Cookware

Stainless steel cookware has many purposes. Most of the kitchen tools made before the invention of stainless steel were heavy or expensive. This is because most were made from aluminum, iron, or copper. When stainless steel was invented, it made cooking and baking much easier. Most cookware today uses stainless steel.

Many stainless steel cookware are either mixed with aluminum insides, to make the cookware lighter and absorb heat faster, or with copper to help even out the cooking surface. When cooking on a gas range, an aluminum and stainless steel combination is great for allowing the heat to hit the sides of the pan as well as the bottom. For cooking on electric stoves, however, it is best to use a pan or pot with a copper bottom, because electric stoves tend to burn food quicker and easier than gas ranges. The copper bottom helps absorb and disperse the cooking heat, making it a great choice for electric stoves and most home cooking.

When shopping for stainless steel cookware, it is best to try and get the best quality for your price. The highest end cookwares are usually some of the best, but they may not be good enough to justify the high price tag. The mid range level of cookware is probably the best to purchase, because it is durable enough to last a long time, but inexpensive enough to be in most people’s budget. In general, the thicker the bottom of the pot or pan, the better performance it will have. This is not true of Teflon pans, but they are not meant to be used as long term cookware anyway. There are many different baking tools that come in stainless steel.

These can include: saucepan, frypans, bakeware, and more. Care of stainless steel pots and pans is rather simple. Basic common sense must be followed. First of all, stainless steel can be washed in the dishwasher. For deeper cleaning of stains, a stainless steel powder cleanser can be used. It is important to not use bleach or steel wool on these pots and pans. This can ruin the surface. Overheating is also a bad idea, so be sure to read the instructions that came with your cookware to ensure that you are not heating the pans beyond the recommended settings.
