Children should have a good home. They should always be given the love and care they need. Sadly, this is not the reality for many. Adoptive families help to save the lives of children who have been abandoned, orphaned or abused. This process is not easy, and adoptions cost money, usually a lot of money. There are many reasons why an adoptive family may not be able to get the child they want. They can be denied, have the child taken back or simply not be able to afford to proceed.

For singles and same sex couples looking to adopt a child, the process and laws can be horrific. Some states are actively pursuing legislation that prevents single women, single men or same sex couples from being able to adopt a child from a state adoptions agency or even from a private agency. People against singles or same sex couples believe that the kid will suffer from emotional and psychological damage by having these people as parents. However, there is no proof that they would not be loving role models or that they would inflict psychological damage.

Adoptive families have all heard the horror stories of families torn apart because one biological parent, or both, decided to try and reclaim the child after giving the child up for adoption. It can wreak havoc on the lives of the adoptive family and the child. That is why the agencies stress to the birth parent, that both parents need to be present to sign away their rights so that they cannot come back later and try to reclaim the child.
