Applying For Financial Aid
Applying for financial aid is not the demon that many people think it is going to be. It does require a certain amount of time and paperwork but any financial aid office can help you out with that. Receiving financial aid for school is important because it is the deciding factor on whether or not some people can afford to go. The steps are easy to do and you can learn how to manage your money.
The first step you need to take for financial aid grants is to find your previous year’s income tax information. This is how the government determines your eligibility and how much money you will be eligible to receive. If you are a dependant of your parents, then you will need their previous year’s tax income as well.
Step two is filling out the FAFSA, otherwise known as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid paperwork that will determine how much money you receive. This is the paperwork that requires all of the above information. Once the FAFSA is filed, you will receive a Student Aid Report, or SAR, that will list how much, if any, federal government grant money that you will receive. This grant money is often a Pell Grant and it does not have to be repaid as a student loan would be. You may still need to take out student loans to cover the remainder of your expenses.
