Your Defensive Driving Questions
Can defensive driving get me out of a ticket?
Can it defensive driving gets you out of a ticket after you have been speeding and have been pulled over? It probably will not. By then the deed is done and you have been speeding when you should have been following the posted speed limits. It can however often stop the ticket from going on your record provided a judge agrees to this course of action. Often the judge will rule that you can take a defensive driving course to stop the ticket from going on your record and thus increasing your insurance premium. One of the requirements for this to work is that you agree not to get another ticket within a specified amount of time. Should you get another ticket during that time period both tickets will go onto your record.
Do I have to take the defensive course in person or can it be online?
The answer to this question depends on where you live. There are states that allow you to take the course online and there are some that still require you take the class in person. You will have to check with your local Department of Motor Vehicles to see what the requirements are for your state. If you are allowed to take the course online you need to make sure that the course is accredited and will actually be counted when it comes time to present the court or your insurance that you have completed the class successfully.
