A good tattoo shop will always have a tattoo flash or books of their work available. Photographers and other artists are required to keep portfolios and show clients their previous work. The artists who work in such shops should be held to the same standard. In addition to looking through their portfolio of tattoos, each body art artist should display the paperwork identifying their state certification.

Would you eat at a restaurant that hadn’t passed any public cleanliness or health inspections? If the answer is no, then you shouldn’t spend much time considering a tattoo shop that doesn’t display any public records for health inspection either. Autoclaves, tattoo machines and clean needle practices are a serious deal and you want to be sure that they are being properly cleaned and inspected.
